Mouth Watering Goodness!!
I’v been on the hunt for those restaurant style onion ring. You know the ones that are perfectly covered in batter, crispy and flavorful!!
Look no further then this one right here.
As you can guess it took a few experimental test runs to find that perfectly balanced onion ring batter…but I believe I have finally found THE perfect combination.
The hardest part about making these onion rings is not eating all of them before you are done. ( I feel like that’s hardest part about cooking a lot of things)
Collect the following ingredients to begin.
I like to use red onions some times to make these. It’s not the usual onion choice when it comes to rings but they give it a super unique flavor that i crave in onion rings.
If you aren’t into the whole red onion idea I don’t blame you….It’s a bit strange.
Go for a white or yellow onion…
- 1 Onion ( I like to use red onion)
- 1/2 Cup all purpose flour
- 1 Tablespoon baking powder
- 1 Tablespoon of paprika
- 1 Egg
- 3/4 Cup of milk
- 1 teaspoon pf ground pepper
- Salt as desired
- Bread crumbs
- Oil for frying
Dipping sauce- crucial sauce needed for these suckers!!!
- 1/2 Cup Sweet baby rays bbq sauce
- 1/2 CupRanch
- 1 Tablespoon Best foods mayo
To begin grab the onion peal it and slice it into 1/4 inch think slices. See….red onions 🙂
Next combine the flour, baking powder, salt, and paprika into a bowl and mix together.
Coat each onion ring in the flour mixture and set aside.
Here comes that secret. Combing the remaining flour mixture with the milk, egg, and pepper combine until most of the clumps are gone.
Dip the onions rings into the mixture and let the excess drip of.
Toss that into the bread crumbs and shake them around a bit. I am a huge fan of the shaking method i use deep tupperware bowls so it doesn’t make a mess.
Set the onion rings on a cookie cooling rack so the excess can drip off while you warm up the oil to cook the onion rings.
Warm up the oil in a skillet. You will know the oil is hot enough if you toss a little flour in and it sizzles up. You don’t want it to just burn up though it should be a nice sizzle.
While you are cooking the onion rings you can whip up the camp fire dipping sauce.
Put equal parts bbq sauce, and ranch, then a dash of mayo into a mixing bowl and blend well.
The combination of fresh fried onions rings dipped in this cool creamy smokey sauce is basically perfection.
Here you have it ladies and gents!
